Music
I began my career in music by studying percussion at The Manhattan School of Music in 1961 and stayed for two years before switching to an academic university so I could get my teaching certificate. I was awarded a music scholarship to play in the school concert band and jazz band.
A car accident left me with an injured hand and I was unable to play for some 15 years, hence my move to talking about music and art and the move to philosophy.
But once my hand had healed I began playing and teaching again. During my playing years I have done everything from playing in a symphony orchestra to a punk band. But my main love is the freer forms of jazz. I have been playing vibes and drums with Eric Stach's Free Music Unit for the last few years and I have also been performing solo drum concerts.
My DVD, Rhythmically Speaking, has been well received and my self produced CD, Rhythmic Impressions, offers examples of my solo drum compositions, as well as few examples of my melodic pieces performed on vibes.
